The Gallery of Ancient Marbles

The Ancient Marbles Gallery is a suggestive space where the marbles, of the utmost importance for the history of the Jewish Community of Rome and dating back to the XVI-XIX centuries, are collected. Some of them remember the legacies of wealthy families, others document the acquisition of land for the cemetery. An inscription prohibits the bringing of leavened bread near the oven of unleavened bread, others register the activities of the brotherhoods. These works, with their letters in flowered Hebrew and with their sought-after materials, were an integral part of the decoration of the Five Scole, now destroyed.
